Gulfstream Aerospace Achieves FAA SMSVP Compliance Ahead of Deadline

Gulfstream Aerospace achieves FAA SMSVP compliance ahead of deadline, reinforcing global aviation safety standards and enhancing customer support across its U.S. repair station network.

FAA Safety Management System Voluntary Program Requirements Met Across Network Ahead of Schedule

✈️ Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. has once again raised the bar in aviation safety. The company announced that its U.S. Customer Support repair station network has successfully met compliance requirements for the Federal Aviation Authority’s (FAA) Safety Management System Voluntary Program (SMSVP)—well ahead of the December 31 deadline.

This milestone ensures enhanced and consistently aligned safety and quality control standards across Gulfstream’s expansive Customer Support network, reinforcing the company’s long-standing commitment to operational excellence.

Why This Matters

Earlier this year, the U.S.-E.U. Bilateral Oversight Board mandated that U.S.-based repair stations holding a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 145 certificate adopt a safety management system (SMS) as outlined in the SMSVP. Recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), SMSVP represents a global benchmark for aviation safety.

By achieving compliance early, Gulfstream demonstrates not only regulatory readiness but also leadership in advancing industry-wide safety practices.

Gulfstream’s Safety Legacy

Lor Izzard, senior vice president of Gulfstream Customer Support, emphasized the company’s culture of safety:

“Gulfstream’s high safety and quality standards are cornerstones of our culture, and operating at the highest levels of safety is our first priority. We were one of the first OEMs to establish a safety management system nearly 20 years ago, laying the groundwork to complete this new compliance ahead of schedule and ensuring our customers benefit from the same industry-leading safety and quality experience across the Gulfstream Customer Support network.”

Nationwide Implementation

The SMSVP has now been fully integrated across Gulfstream’s U.S. repair station facilities, including:

  • Mesa, Arizona
  • Long Beach and Van Nuys, California
  • Palm Beach, Florida
  • Savannah and Brunswick, Georgia
  • Westfield, Massachusetts
  • St. Louis, Missouri
  • Appleton, Wisconsin
  • Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas

Additionally, Gulfstream’s repair and overhaul centers in Lincoln, California, and Fort Worth have adopted the program.

Benefits Beyond Compliance

The SMSVP implementation brings tangible advantages:

  • ✅ Enhanced transparency in safety standards
  • 📊 Refined, data-driven decision making
  • 💰 Increased cost savings through efficiency gains

This achievement complements Gulfstream’s EASA-governed SMS program completed at its Farnborough Service Center in 2024, further aligning its global operations under unified safety protocols.

Gulfstream: Innovating Since 1958

Inspired by the belief that aviation could fuel business growth, Gulfstream pioneered the first purpose-built business aircraft—the Gulfstream I—in 1958. Today, more than 3,400 Gulfstream aircraft are in service worldwide.

Together with parent company General Dynamics, Gulfstream continues to invest in innovation, offering a next-generation family of aircraft including:

  • Gulfstream G300 & G400
  • Gulfstream G500 & G600
  • Gulfstream G700 & G800

Each model is backed by Gulfstream’s worldwide Customer Support network, ensuring that safety and service remain at the forefront of every mission.

✈️ With SMSVP compliance achieved ahead of schedule, Gulfstream Aerospace reaffirms its position as a leader in aviation safety, innovation, and customer support.
