To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week running from 5th to 9th March 2018, TUI stores across the UK & Ireland are working with local schools and colleges to give young people a taste of travel.
Across the week more than 20 events will take place in TUI stores up and down the country from Sheffield to Southampton, Plymouth to Peterborough, as well as Gateshead to Glasgow*. Each store will open its door to students from the local area to give them a feel for retail and the world of holidays.
The students will be given an introduction to TUI holidays, TUI retail stores and agents, and shown their booking systems. They will also take part in role play activity and will shadow retail agents as they book holidays for customers before being given an opportunity to try out what they’ve learnt and help customers to Discover Their Smiles.
Caroline Kitcher, HR Director, TUI UK & Ireland commented: “It’s really great to be able to welcome students in to our stores during National Apprenticeship Week and get them excited about travel and retail. It’s a fantastic industry to work in and we hope to be able to welcome some of these young people back in on our apprenticeship scheme. We’re really proud of our commitment to apprenticeships, training more than 5,500 people on the scheme since the year 2000. Working for TUI can open up a world of opportunities and we pride ourselves on providing our people with quality training and development, and exciting career prospects both nationally and internationally.”
In 2016 TUI announced 2,000 new apprenticeship opportunities by 2020. The UK’s leading leisure travel company pledged to create new schemes across its engineering, IT and retail arms to grow and develop talent. It also announced an industry-first pledge to develop a pilot apprenticeship standard and the UK’s first Degree-Level apprenticeship in the travel sector in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire.
To join the company TUI looks for a passion for holidays, and a focus on providing unrivalled professionalism and service to its customers.
